On Tuesday 22nd February 2000 I was once again in The Town Hall Cheltenham, this time it was for The ALL-AMERICAN
60s Show which featured three American Vocal groups of the 60's. The three groups were, THE COASTERS, THE PLATTERS, and
THE DRIFTERS.
THE COASTERS who were first on stage performed the hits "Searchin", "Poison Ivy", "Yakety Yak", and "Charlie
Brown" amongst others with great vigor and a little comedy.
This line-up was probably:-
THOMAS PALMER
RONNIE BRIGHT
ALVIN MORSE
CARL GARDNER
CARL GARDNER JR.
Next on stage were THE PLATTERS who again performed with great precision tracks like "Only You", "Twilight
Time", "The Great Pretender", "Harbour Lights", "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", and a brilliant version of "My Prayer".
The line-up was probably:-
HERB REED
BILLIE COX
WILLIAM NEWTON
WAYNE MILLER
DD MARTIN
Last on stage were THE DRIFTERS featuring original member CHARLIE THOMAS. I was a little disappointed with this
group as they only performed a few of their own hits, the rest being covers. Amongst their own hits they performed
were, "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Up On The Roof", "When My Little Girl Is Smiling", and "On Broadway". Amongst
the covers performed was a great version of LOUIS ARMSTRONG's "What A Wonderful World".
The Drifters line-up was:-
CHARLIE THOMAS
JERONE MANNING
STEVEN BROWN
LOUIS BAILEY
